The Guiding Light

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16 NKJV

Can you guess what time it is? It’s time to shine in the midst of a generation suffering from moral confusion, identity crisis, broken families, and spiritual and mental blindness. With your light, you are positioned to lead them to the answer, JESUS.

No matter your age or location, you are called, destined, and made to shine so that generations may be set free. Notice the instruction: “let your light shine.” The light you carry is not something you are trying to obtain. You don’t turn it on. As one who is in Christ, your light is already on, bright and connected to Jesus, the source. Your responsibility is not to create light, but to show it.

Many have stopped shining. Some are distracted by the affairs of life. Others are afraid of rejection. Some have grown comfortable. Others simply don’t realize how much the world needs what they carry. Regardless of the reason, the instruction remains: live by the Word and do what Jesus commanded: “Let your light shine.”

How do we let our light shine?

  • Speak the truth—do not lie

  • Give to those in need

  • Remain faithful in your relationships

  • Speak timely, life-giving words

  • Take responsibility and lead where you are, business or work

Why are we shining?

So that God the Father is glorified and people are led to Jesus. The goal is not attention on us, but transformation in others. Our lives should shift people’s focus off themselves and onto the One who saves.

What must you do today?

  • Stop being ashamed of being a Christian

  • Be secure in your identity in Christ

  • Speak with boldness and clarity

  • Help someone intentionally

  • Pray for someone—face-to-face or over the phone

When you live this way, you become a light to people overwhelmed by anxiety and darkness. They will start asking questions: Why are you different? Why are you full of peace and hope? That opens the door for you to lead them to Christ.
