The Winning Hand
On November 13th, 2020, I had a dream. I was catching up with childhood friends and playing spades. When the dealer gave me my hand, I realized I had been dealt a set of cards that guaranteed me victory. Instead of celebrating, I felt it was unfair and tried to get the dealer to reshuffle, but it was too late. The game had already started. As the game went on, I woke up.
Lying in bed, wondering whether the dream was from the Lord, I heard the Holy Spirit say, “Did you notice you had the winning hand?”
Jesus wants us to understand that because of His love, He has given us the winning hand. I want to share three cards the Father has placed in our hands for a continual winning season.
Card 1: Our Mouths
Your mouth is a spiritual weapon. With it, you bless, pray over your family, command sickness to leave, and sing to the Lord. God rules the universe with His word, and we—made in His image—carry that same creative authority. This is why the enemy works so hard to silence us or push us toward negative speech. However, we refuse that trap. We use our words intentionally and consistently. Remember what Pastor Maurice taught us: YOU CAN'T WIN WITH YOUR MOUTH CLOSED!
Card 2: The Holy Spirit
We have the greatest guide on earth living within us. We never have to make life shaping decisions alone—whether it’s investments, planning for the future, or navigating daily challenges. The Holy Spirit leads us in wisdom and in prayer.
I remember praying one morning when I felt led by the Holy Spirit to pray to intercede for my mother. I obeyed. Later that day, I called her to check on her. She told me that as she was coming home from work, a man tried to snatch her purse. She held on, he pushed her against a car, and then he ran off. After she told me what happened, I explained how I had been led to pray for her that morning. She immediately recognized the protection that covered her. She won that morning because of the Spirit led prayer.
Card 3: The Word
The Word builds our faith, shapes our vision, and our reveals identity. This is a card we must play daily. When Jesus began His ministry, the devil tempted Him repeatedly. Jesus defeated every temptation by telling Satan what the Word says. Showing us exactly how victory works.
When you put these three cards into play—your mouth, the Holy Spirit, and the Word—you stop living as someone waiting to win and start living as someone already positioned to win. Jesus has placed victory in your hands. Your assignment is to use what He’s given you. This is how you stay in a continual winning season and deny the enemy any ground in your life.
