Developing Your Human Spirit - Part 1

You Are an Awesome Spirit Being

You are an awesome spirit being! Your spirit—the real you—is made up of God’s substance and essence. Your Heavenly Father has given you the great responsibility—and privilege—of developing this dynamic part of you.

When you were born again, your spirit man was born anew, and just like a newborn baby, your spirit man has to grow. We call it “growing spiritually.”

This is why Peter said: “As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby…” (1 Peter 2:2)

“As newborn babes…”

Peter is comparing believers to babies. What do babies do? They crave milk constantly. They cry for it. They pursue it. They depend on it.

Peter is saying: Have that same intense desire for spiritual nourishment.

“Desire the pure milk of the word…”

The “pure milk” is talking about God’s truth—God’s Word.

Just like:

• Your body needs food to grow physically
• Your spirit needs God’s Word to grow spiritually

You could say:

No Word = No Growth

“That you may grow thereby…”

Growth is the goal.

Peter is saying: “If you want to develop spiritually, become stronger, think differently, overcome sin, walk in faith, and mature—you must feed on the Word.”

This is why Jesus said:

“It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ” (Matthew 4:4)

Strengthen Your Spirit Man

One of the things I’ve recently done is read a book of the Bible repeatedly. In 2025, I read the book of Hebrews over and over again. I listened to it on audio repeatedly.

My spirit was fed, my faith grew stronger, and my understanding increased tremendously from that precious time spent in the Word.

To God be the glory!

I encourage you to pick a book of the Bible that resonates with you and read it repeatedly until your heart leaps and your soul shouts for joy.

Don’t just visit the Word—live there. Feed there. Feast there.

When the Word Becomes Part of You

I love something my spiritual father, the late Kenneth Hagin, said:

“We can feed upon God’s Word until it becomes a part of our inward nature, and in any situation or emergency, the first thing we think of is what God’s Word says. The Word will rise up in us, giving illumination to our minds and direction to our spirits.”
