The Real You

You are a spirit, you have a soul, and you live in a body. Your spirit man is the real you and the most important part of your being. Value it.

Your spirit man is the part of you that is unseen. Peter calls him “the hidden man of the heart.” This is where the Holy Spirit lives. This is where eternal life resides. Your spirit is where the Father communicates with you.

Don’t Neglect Your Spirit

A lot of people don’t value their spirit. They put an excessive amount of attention on their body and their soul, which is made up of the mind, the will, and the emotions.

Before the fall of man, Adam’s spirit, soul, and body were in complete compliance and alignment with each other. When he sinned, man’s entire being crashed and became corrupted. My Lord! But corrupted didn’t mean inoperable. He and Eve were still able to function on the planet — just at a much lower level.

Jesus Restored Man’s Spirit

When Jesus came, He restored man’s being — in particular, man’s spirit. This is the part of you that’s born again. Your spirit man has been restored back to God. This is why Paul said:

“The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.” — Romans 8:16

Notice he said “with our spirit.” The Holy Spirit communicates and interacts with our spirit. This is crucial to understand because it gives you greater power to walk in the Spirit.

Strengthen Your Inner Man

It’s high time we valued our spirit. It’s high time we put the emphasis back on our spirit man and its development.

A developed spirit stays connected to Heaven. You begin to operate on this planet from a higher realm. You will not let your mind, will, or emotions dominate you. You will dominate your soul. You will also dominate your body well. Paul said:

“But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.” — 1 Corinthians 9:27

Notice he said, “I.” Who’s the “I”? His spirit man.

Your spirit has the power to discipline and control the body, but you must be strengthened in your inner man to do that. And that strengthening comes through time in the Word and time in prayer.
